Looking into Paper Towns for Drawing from the Archive I discovered Map makers put fake towns onto there maps as a copyright technique. This is so they can quickly distinguish if someone has used their map as their own. I followed this trail and found that Google Maps had used one by the name Argleton near Liverpool boarding Aughton in the Borough of West Lancashire. I decided to create an archive for this false town. Creating Historical Drawings to Show a false parish that had been created by Lord Argleton in the late 1700s. Using the Land Google had given to this Town(1658 Hectares) I worked out the parish would hold around 300 houses including a station, manor house, a church and various other buildings such as a town hall and some public areas like parks and fields.

My idea was to create a few historical drawings as well as a map of the parish to be displayed as the last remnants of a once fruitful area which fell into disrepair after a large fire took the area which is why there are no records or buildings left to this day. Using a fake newspaper to create a sense of authenticity I thought it would be quite interesting to post the drawings, newspaper front page and map of the area onto the Wikipedia page for Argleton. Thus, creating an archive for Googles Paper Town Argleton.

Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to succeed in creating a completed map or the newspaper headlines for Argleton so I have had to settle with 4 historical drawings; one of the lord himself and the other three housing images of the local landmarks. The church, train station and the manor house. Without the Other two drawings I didn’t feel comfortable uploading the documents to Wikipedia yet, but hopefully I can complete this soon as I found the idea interesting as a concept and a piece of work in its own right.
